Bone Cancer is mostly seen in children and is almost a rare case in
adults. There are several types of bone cancers. Primary bone cancers are the
most aggressive of all. This type of bone cancer occurs when the cancer cells
reach the bones from carcinogenic cells in other parts of the body. Primary
bone cancers are further classified in a section called sarcomas. In Sarcoma,
the cancer cells usually start from the bone marrow, bone, collective tissues,
capillary, etc. These cells ideally start multiplying from the blood-forming
cells of the bone marrow, but not the bone or bone marrow itself. A sharp and
continuous pain in the particular organ with the tumor is one of the most
evident symptoms stating the presence of a sarcoma.
The following are the major types of bone cancers.
Osteosarcoma: Most common bone cancer, it is usually seen in teenagers and young
adults. They are more common in males than in females.
These are mostly formed
- In
the upper arm bone - Around
the knee - Around
the shoulder - Around
the lower thigh bone or Femur
Ewing’s Sarcoma: This mostly arises in the soft tissues in the body. So they are also
called as soft tissue sarcoma. The other tumors other than the ones in the soft
tissues are called Ewing’s bone tumors. They mostly start in the
- Thigh
- Pelvis
- Shin
Chondrosarcoma: This arises with the cartilage cells of the bone and is usually seen in
adults aged between 30 and 60. While the tumors in this case can grow inside
the bone or on the bone itself, there are a few common sites where this tumor
has been observed mostly.
They are
- Shoulder
blades - The
ribs - Femur
- The
upper arm - Pelvis
It is highly essential to detect the type and location of the tumor in
Bone cancer to provide the treatment accordingly and prevent the cancer cells
from further multiplying and become completely fatal to the body. Premier Oncology Consultants assist cancer patients with
