Treatment Options

What Cancer Treatments Are Available at Our Houston-Area Clinic?

Quick answer

We offer the core medical treatments for cancer: chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy and hormone therapy, given in our Katy office, plus hematology care and full supportive care. When you need surgery or radiation, we coordinate with experienced specialists so your treatment stays on one plan.

Most people need more than one type of treatment. Your oncologist chooses the right combination and order, for example chemotherapy before surgery to shrink a tumor, or hormone therapy after surgery to lower the chance of recurrence.

01

Chemotherapy

Medicines that destroy fast-growing cancer cells. Given by IV infusion in our office or as pills at home, in planned cycles with rest periods so your body can recover.

Used for: Breast, lung, colorectal, ovarian, stomach, bladder and many other cancers; lymphoma

02

Immunotherapy

Treatments such as checkpoint inhibitors that help your own immune system recognize and attack cancer cells.

Used for: Melanoma, lung, bladder, kidney and head and neck cancers; some lymphomas

03

Targeted therapy

Drugs aimed at specific genes or proteins that drive cancer growth, chosen using biomarker and genomic test results from your tumor.

Used for: HER2-positive breast cancer, EGFR- or ALK-positive lung cancer, some colorectal cancers

04

Hormone therapy

Medicines that block or lower the hormones that some cancers need to grow.

Used for: Hormone receptor-positive breast cancer and prostate cancer

05

Supportive & palliative care

Expert control of pain, nausea, fatigue, appetite loss and anxiety at every stage of treatment, not only at the end of life.

Used for: Any cancer, at any stage, alongside active treatment

06

Hematology (blood disorders)

Evaluation of abnormal blood counts, anemia, high or low platelets and other blood conditions, which are sometimes the first sign of a cancer such as lymphoma or leukemia.

Used for: Abnormal CBC, anemia, platelet and white blood cell disorders

Surgery and radiation: our oncologists work closely with trusted surgical oncologists and radiation oncologists in the Houston area. We help arrange referrals, share your records and keep every part of your treatment on one coordinated plan.

Cancers We Treat

Which Types of Cancer Do Our Oncologists Treat?

Quick answer

We treat most adult solid tumors and blood cancers, including breast, lung, colorectal, prostate, bladder, ovarian, stomach, head and neck cancers, melanoma and lymphoma. If your diagnosis is not listed, call us. We will tell you honestly whether we are the right team for you.

Getting Started

What Happens at Your First Oncology Appointment?

Quick answer

Your first visit is a consultation, not treatment. Your oncologist reviews your records, examines you, explains your diagnosis in plain language, orders any tests still needed and outlines a treatment plan. Most first visits take about 60 to 90 minutes.

  1. Call or request a call back. Our team gathers your referral, pathology report, scans and lab results, often the same day.
  2. Meet your oncologist. We review your history, examine you and answer every question. Bring a family member if you can.
  3. Complete your work-up. If needed, we order staging scans, blood tests or biomarker (genomic) testing on your tumor.
  4. Review your plan. We explain your options, expected benefits and side effects, and the schedule, then help with insurance authorization.
  5. Start treatment. Many patients begin within days, in our comfortable in-office treatment area.

What to bring: photo ID, insurance card, a list of medicines, referral and pathology reports, and any recent scan or lab results. You can also complete our patient registration form ahead of time.

Personalized Care

How Is Your Cancer Treatment Plan Personalized?

Quick answer

Your plan is built around the exact type and stage of your cancer, the biomarkers in your tumor, your other health conditions, and what matters most to you. We follow evidence-based national guidelines and adjust treatment as we see how you respond.

Two people with the same cancer can need very different treatment. We look at:

  • Cancer type and stage from pathology and imaging
  • Biomarkers and genomic results (such as HER2, EGFR, ALK, PD-L1 or MSI) that can unlock targeted therapy or immunotherapy
  • Your overall health, including heart, kidney and liver function
  • Your goals: cure, long-term control, comfort, work and family life

We re-check your progress with exams, labs and scans, and adjust the plan whenever your situation changes.

Second Opinions

Should You Get a Second Opinion on a Cancer Diagnosis?

Quick answer

Yes, a second opinion is common and wise, especially for a new diagnosis, a rare cancer or a complex treatment plan. Most insurance plans cover it. We offer prompt second-opinion visits and will share our findings with your current doctors.

A second opinion can confirm your diagnosis, give you more confidence in your plan, or reveal options you have not heard about, such as targeted therapy or a clinical trial. It rarely delays care in a meaningful way, and asking for one will not offend a good doctor.

Supportive Care

How Do We Manage Side Effects and Protect Your Quality of Life?

Quick answer

We treat side effects early and aggressively. Dr. Riaz completed a Palliative Medicine Fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic, so expert control of pain, nausea, fatigue and stress is built into every treatment plan, at every stage.

Modern anti-nausea medicines, growth-factor support, nutrition guidance and careful dose adjustments mean many patients keep working and living their normal routines during treatment. Palliative care is not the same as hospice. It is extra support that can be given alongside curative treatment.

  • Pain, nausea and appetite management
  • Fatigue, sleep and mood support
  • Help with work, family and caregiver questions
  • Survivorship follow-up after treatment ends

Warning Signs

When Should You See an Oncologist?

Quick answer

See an oncologist as soon as you have a cancer diagnosis, a suspicious biopsy, scan or blood test result, or a referral from your doctor. You should not wait weeks. Early evaluation gives you the most treatment options.

Call us promptly if you have:

If you have severe symptoms such as trouble breathing, chest pain or heavy bleeding, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

Insurance

Does Premier Oncology Accept My Insurance?

Quick answer

We accept most major insurance plans and Medicare, including AARP, Aetna, Aetna Medicare, Amerigroup, Amerivantage, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, UnitedHealthcare, Tricare and TMHP. Self-pay options are available. Our team verifies your benefits before treatment begins.

Cancer treatment costs depend on your plan, the medicines prescribed and how long treatment lasts. Before you start, we check your coverage, obtain any prior authorizations and explain your expected costs. If you have questions about coverage, call 281-647-7766 or see our insurance page.
