Skin Cancer is the most common type of cancers. A fairly significant mass of blood cells accumulated on the surface of the skin, due to extreme exposure to sunlight, causes this type of cancer. A scaly lesion, it is quite easy to detect it even in the initial stage so as to cure it immediately and effectively. Skin cancers usually begin in the outermost layer of the epidermis of the skin, called Carcinoma, a case in which older skin cells are gradually and continuously pushed toward the surface of the skin.
Premier Oncology Consultants help understand the different types of skin cancers and detect them early. Actinic keratosis, Basal cell carcinoma, Squamous cell carcinoma and Melanoma are the major types of skin cancers. A few signs or symptoms of the most common types of skin cancers include red or purple swollen patches, an old mole that changes shape or bleeds, painful or dark lesions that hurt or bleed frequently. These are some of the most commonly diagnosed symptoms in almost all the cases of skin cancers. While the causes of Melanoma remain unclear to this day, Basal and squamous cell skin cancers are usually caused by the UV rays.
While the treatment for Carcinoma and other types of skin cancers depend upon the severity and intensity of the stage of the cancer, it most usually depends on the type of the cancer itself. Minor surgical procedures usually help in eliminating skin cancers but it sometimes requires more comprehensive treatment methods to remove carcinoma. However, prolonged cancers or neglected skin cancers that amass lumps of cells becomes slightly difficult for the treatment. Chemotherapy helps in eliminating the topmost layer of skin with the cancerous cells. Radiation is also an extensively used procedure that uses high powered beams to kill cancerous cells.
